Discover Your Future: Explore Careers That Fit You

Use the My Next Move Interest Profiler to uncover career paths aligned with your passions and strengths then map those to TCL programs.

Choosing a career can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to figure it out alone. At the Technical College of the Lowcountry, our Career Exploration resources help you take the first step with confidence. Using the My Next Move Interest Profiler, you’ll identify your strengths, explore careers that match your interests, and discover which TCL programs can help you reach your goals.

How to Use This Tool

  • Go to the My Next Move Interest Profiler and complete the 30-question survey.
  • Answer honestly — there are no right or wrong responses. The goal is to reflect on what you truly enjoy.
  • Once finished, you’ll get a breakdown of your interest scores across the six RIASEC categories.
  • Click on each top category to learn more about what types of work match your interests.
  • Choose a Job Zone based on how much education or training you’re open to pursuing (e.g., short-term certificate, diploma, associate degree).
  • Based on your assessment, My Next Move will suggest “best fit” or “great fit” careers.
  • Click into careers that intrigue you to see more details: job duties, knowledge & skills, technology used, education requirements, and job outlook.
  • Use the “Find More Careers” button to further refine or expand your list.
  • Use your career list to see which TCL programs align with your interests. (Here, link to relevant TCL degree and certification programs.)
  • If a career you like requires training you don’t yet have, explore TCL’s program catalog and talk to an academic or career advisor about your options.

Why Start With an Interest Assessment?

  • Self-assessment gives you insight into your preferences, strengths, and motivations, helping you choose a career that truly fits.
  • The My Next Move Interest Profiler asks you 30 simple questions and groups your answers into six categories based on the Holland RIASEC model: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional.
  • Your results will connect you with careers that match your top interest areas, including information on job tasks, typical work environments, education requirements, and salary ranges.
  • You’ll also select a “Job Zone” that represents how much education/training you’re thinking about. This helps tailor your career suggestions to your realistic goals.
